In the Senate alone, there were 160 Republican amendments approved - and yet, when the final vote came, not a single Republican voted for the bill.

that's a lie

December 10, 2009

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) today spoke on the Senate floor to respond to Republican attacks regarding the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee’s consideration of health care reform legislation. Dodd led the HELP Committee this past summer when it approved the Affordable Health Choices Act. Nearly 150 Republican amendments are reflected in the Senate health care bill.

Now then how many meetings took place between Dem "leadership" and the White HOuse? How many of those meetings were open to let's say - the GOP?

and the fact that no one on the right voted for that bill - reflected on the shittiness of that bill.

I'm sure it was an inadvertent omission on your part to include the misprint in the paragraph at the top of the page, but not the direct quote:

“We may have disagreements about the health care bill. That's nothing new at all here. But I want the record to reflect the efforts that have been made for over a year now to involve our colleagues across the spectrum. During the HELP Committee markup—I will mention it over and over again—we considered 287 amendments. 161 of those…accepted were Republican amendments,” said Dodd. “You can vote against the bill if you want, but don’t suggest to me that this process denied people a chance to be heard, to be involved, and to be engaged. I will not accept the notion that there’s been a refusal…to listen to bipartisan ideas as part of this bill.”

Oh, and btw, there's video at the website that includes the quote and numbers above.

Now the question is, now that you're proven wrong, will you resort to your usual childish responses, or will you man up and apologize for calling me a liar?

(Hint: Nobody's taking odds on that one.)

you lied twice in this thread

You lied when you said the GOP was holding things up - when in fact, several key GOP votes helped to move the Senate's bill to the floor. Agree or disagree?

You lied when you claimed there were 160 GOP admendments to the bill - according to the part of Dodd's website that I posted (and this is why i posted it) only 150 were included. Agree or Disagree?

Fact: Republican members of Congress said they would stall the bills per talking points sent out by the RNC, by using any means possible - and they've done exactly what they promised to do.

So that was the truth.

Fact: The website you cited had a misprint at the top - it had the number "150" - but the actual number when you watched the video AT THE WEBSITE YOU CITED was "161".

So according to the video from the website you posted, I missed by 1. My bad.

Here he claims 150 amendments.....in the video you claim it is 160 - I will assume that Dodd is like all leftists and is an idiot who has no clue about the subject matter at hand. You get a pass on that one.

About the GOP - you're lying. You refuse to acknowledge that without the help of Republican Olympia Snow - the senate's bill would never have reached the floor. Oh and remember, at the time the DEMS had a fillerbuster proof majority. the DEMS failed to get the bill passed. there was NOTHING the GOP could have done to stop it....NOTHING. the bill failed, because it was a bad bill and NObama didn't provide leadership on the issue. why is the truth so hard for you to admit?

OKay, let's try it again.

There was a paragraph at the top that was a summary that said "150 Republican amendments"

The very next paragraph, which is not a summary, but lines from the transcript of the video (which is there too, so you can check for yourself), says "161"

EITHER NUMBER IS A LOOOOOONG way from "THEY WON'T LET US PARTICIPATE!"

I have no idea why some of the Democrats are still laboring under the misconception that there's a possibility that if they give the Republicans damned near everything they want, they'll eventually stop obstructing and help with the bill. We've been pushing the "don't bow to their threats, let them filibuster!" mantra since the beginning. Unfortunately there's a lot of money from insurance lobbyists going to those who don't push hard on reform.

President Obama really wanted to push the bipartisan idea on health care reform - that didn't help in many ways. But, one of the things I DO like about him is that he's a "big picture" kind of thinker (which isn't always easy with the impatience of the general public and with the "fall on the fainting couch" faction of the population whining and crying at every opportunity)

Meeting with the GOP on health care reform with the cameras rolling is a great idea. Let them explain why they sponsor amendments and then turn around and vote against them (hint: it's called "stalling")

My guess is that the Republicans will find an excuse not to show.

IF that happens - IF Republicans bail on this opportunity - then they are, in effect, saying to the Democrats, "Here, you do it" (after which, of course, they'll CONTINUE to bitch and moan about being left out of the process)

And yes, Snowe and a couple others fought less against it health care reform than the rest of the Republicans. They're not all obstructionists all the time - just enough to earn the title "party of NO!"

BTW, ANTHEM BCBS just announced a rate increase of 39% next year.

Nope, no problem with the status quo, no need for any kind of regulation, just keep the profits rolling in, no matter what.

In case you haven't noticed, BCBS is a FOR PROFIT company. If you can get cheaper health insurance elsewhere, then you're free to do so. It's a nonissue.

The first thing children learn as they grow up, is the difference between lying and telling the truth. They begin at an early age, to understand mistakes and take responsibility for their actions. A few, learn to hide behind whatever they can, to make it look like all things they disagree with, are lies. The sad thing in life, is far to many people, learn to attack others, by claiming lies.

My point here is simply this, someone who comes out often calling people liars, is always. without fail, trying to hide their own life of lies. Not to mention the fact that someone out to be an honest debater, will seldom resorts to calling people liars. Perhaps now is the time to show some kind of maturity and stop the practce?

If we all worked on the assumption that what is accepted as true, is really true, there would be little hope of advance......

"IF you can get cheaper health insurance"

A LOT of people can't get cheaper health insurance - many can't get ANY. And often those who pay their premiums are dropped as soon as they get sick.

You're highlighting the exact reasons we NEED health care reform:

Anthem Blue Cross will raise rates on March 1 for many of its approximately 800,000 customers in the individual market, the Los Angeles Times reported last week. Some customers say they have been notified of increases from 30 percent to 39 percent, following similar rate hikes last year. Meanwhile, Anthem's parent company, WellPoint Inc., recently announced an eightfold increase in profits for the last three months of 2009, bringing its earnings -- for just that quarter -- to $2.7 billion.

This isn't the first case of a health insurer jacking up rates to meet profit expectations. Back in December, the Huffington Post reported that Aetna was planning to force up to 650,000 clients to drop their coverage next year as it raised premiums starting in 2010.

Funny, I hear you complaining yet I do not see you trying to set up your own not for profit health insurance provider.

again, in case you h aven't been paying attention - insurance providers are for PROFIT. do you understand that? they exist to make their share holders MONEY. And if you have a 401K - you're going to gain from their profits. Do you understand this?
