| I'm seeing flaming popping up again on this forum.
As a reminder you may not flame other members on this forum. If you wish to do that we have a NHB Politics forum.
I've deleted a couple of posts but I'll just permanently site ban those that continue to call others names on this forum without warning and no notification. If you find you can't log on anymore then you've been banned. This forum has a feature if you're a new member that your posts have to be approved x amount of times before you can freely post so don't think you can keep breaking the rules and come back on again.
Talk about the issues and debate without lowering yourself to 10th grade language. Be adults.
If you can't debate without name calling then you're not smart enough to discuss politics on this forum. |

| *bump*
Slutpup has been banned. Watch your flaming... calling somebody an idiot is really a stupid move after the warnings I've given on this forum.
I don't care how much you contribute or if you're a nonpaying/paying member. If you want to flame somebody use the correct forum (NHB Politics or NHB General).
Nobody is above the rules of this forum. |
| | | | | what exactly is flaming?... . specifically?.. you mean you can't call someone dumb when they're acting dumb? |
| | | | | Naturally Cradz will share his thoughts on what he feels flaming is, but this definition sums up flaming well, I think.
wiki:
Flaming is the hostile and insulting interaction between Internet users. Flaming usually occurs in the social context of a discussion board, Internet Relay Chat (IRC) or even through e-mail. An Internet user typically generates a flame response to other posts or users posting on a site, and such a response is usually not constructive, does not clarify a discussion, and does not persuade others. Sometimes, flamers attempt to assert their authority or establish a position of superiority over other users. Other times, a flamer is simply an individual who believes he or she carries the only valid opinion. This leads him or her to personally attack those who disagree. In some cases, flamers wish to upset and offend other members of the forum, in which case they can be called "trolls." Most often however, flames are angry or insulting messages transmitted by people who have strong feelings about a subject.

Exactly... calling somebody dumb isn't constructive to the topic and is flaming.
You can disagree with somebody and tell them your disagree with them and why but calling somebody dumb or an idiot because YOU think they are is not what this forum is about.
We provide NHB forums for that type of discussion which were created AFTER this forum BECAUSE you guys wanted a place to chat in a largely unmoderated forum.
It's like driving in Germany on a speed limited road and complaining to the cop that pulls you over that since we have autobahns in this country why can't I drive as fast as I want! Even sections of the autobahns have speed restrictions (i.e. NHB isn't totally unmoderated but you can certainly say more than on a moderated forum).
Have some common sense folks. There are different types of people using this site and just because you don't agree doesn't give you the right to prevent others from enjoying sections on the site.
Don't like NHB? Don't go there! Don't like moderated forums? Don't go there! |
| | | | | Causual observation by any non-biased person on the forums would clearly show that Master Sanctimonious Prick is by far the worst offender.
Yet he is still allowed on the site!
|
| | | | | He does it where it's allowed.. simple as that.
you'd have to be a moron to flame on a moderated thread here... we get enough damn warnings.....

Actually he's just been banned for flaming on a recent topic. |
| | | | | Lee,
Let me ask you. If I feel someone is being "abusive" and they don't think they are. How do you make that determination for both parties involved? I find interpretations of online behavior can be very subjective as people tend to personalize or fail to see/accept how they act.

| ML (9/17/2008) Lee,
Let me ask you. If I feel someone is being "abusive" and they don't think they are. What do you use to make that determination for both parties involved?
It depends on the situation and the context really. Some people complain purely to complain and try to get other kicked off the site because they have a long standing grudge. I can pretty much see through that most of the time. However, if it's continued bullying or obvious rule breaking even after numerous warnings we will take action.
Everything is handled case by case and at the end of the day it's my judgment that counts. I think I'm quite clear and fair in dealing with issues on the site and run it by what I think is common sense (obviously common sense is sometimes up for debate). This is the reason I don’t chat on here because I would be influenced by those I would chat with.
The general forums are meant for civil discussion without name calling. NHB is for everything else and was created AFTER the rest of the site due to the issues we had previously.
I don't think it's unreasonable to expect people to understand the rules and especially those that frequent these areas the most. You are warned and banning is the last resort.
I just won't put up with idiots who can't follow the rules anymore, regardless if that results in fewer users on the site. I don't make a living from the site and expenses are proportional to the number of users so I really don't care either way. |
