i too was a victim of DV. Almost all the abuse i suffered was emotional. Being told that i was stupid, worthless, all the hateful things one could think of were flung at me. Also other types of violence that i will not get into here. But, if anyone wishes to talk, PM me or send a pager message.

Emotional abuse is the silent violence. It cannot be seen, no outer scars can be found. The scars run deep and never truly go away. You spend your life waiting for it to start all over again, and deep within yourself you feel as if you truly are worthless as they said.

Finding the strength from within to overcome thse feelings is hard, but through adversity, it can be done. It took me years to even begin to feel good about myself. Having my son was the turning point for me there.
I look at him, see the progress that he's made and know that i had a hand in it. Funny how such a small thing as that could finally break the hold and if not quiet that still small voice that will forever linger in my head, at least silence it just a bit.

If you have been abused in ANY way, please, PLEASE tell someone! Don't bury it deep in the recesses of your mind and think that it will go away on its own.

Men, don't fear coming clean with anyone if you have been abused. It does not make you any less of a man!

This cause is so important because of what i went through and what my sister, who spent 14 years in a very abusive relationship still goes through. The scars on her and her 4 children will always be there and have affected them emotionally as well. The children have Manic Depression, Borderline Personality Disorder just to name a few.

So violence affects each and every one of us. It's time to break the silence and STOP the violence!

-Hugs the other survivors-

Sisters in arms, bound together in a common cause.

And for those who only check one board, here is the information i posted under Health & Healing:
