As some of you know another important issue for the month of October is Domestic Violence Awareness..

Thursday, Oct. 25th, 2007 The Pork will observe this day as a day to remember those who are survivors and those who lost someone they love to Criminal Domestic Violence.

Every 9 seconds a woman is abused in this country. As you sit and read this one sentence a woman took a blow to the face, kick to the stomach, or was verbally abused by someone she thought loved her. Almost 95% of those attacked each year are women. CDV is the number one injury to women then any other type of incident that could occur in her life. Almost half the women who are killed in this country were killed by a spouse or a boyfriend. Since most women are embarrassed by CDV crimes, they will not report what has occurred and this happens in almost all cases, and if someone is arrested, the female will drop charges due to fear. The worst of CDV cases, is that 90% of the time children are present when their mother is being beaten or kicked around. Many reported cases of CDV is rape, even though this is a low number, it is still considered a CDV crime.

After reading that small part, did you stop to think that a woman is dead now. As you sat and read that paragraph a child lost their mother. Sad though isn't it......

Below are links of more information on Domestic Violence. The warning signs, stats, myths about CDV, and other important pieces of information that can someone who needs it.

We all know someone who is in a relationship now that needs help, we know someone whose been rapped, but the worst part is if we do not know someone now, we will. Please assist your community by volunteering, being a mentor to children who need someone to look up, or just do what you can to help that one person out who needs a hug....

*****I am editing this thanks to someone saying this..Please remember women are not the only ones abused...Men are abused as well....It is just a high percentage that men committ the abuse towards women and children and more women are killed from CDV acts....Men are rapped and verbally abused as well. We were not leaving out men, but the stats just state that majority of the crimes are against women and children. So, believe me I do know men are injured and hurt by these crimes.

But if you read some of the links below you will learn that CDV compesses a large range of acts. Just not hitting or slapping, but rape, verbal abuse, as well as other acts that lead to someone being hurt in a manner that can hender their life.*****

For years I kept silent, fearful speaking up would result in making things worse. It wasn't until I found strength I did not believe I had that I stopped being a victim and became a living survivor! If you find yourself in such a situation, never be afraid to find your own strength. If you know someone, speak to them. Don't forget, Men are not the only abusers, they can be abused as well. Even fewer men wish to be known but that doesn't change that silence can kill.

Here are a few offerings from me for thursday. Wear, educated and share. I will post a few more a bit later. If you wish a personalized one please page me.

I am a survivor, not from physical abuse..mine was VERBAL abuse.. I had no bruises but my heart was in shreds. So I left.
10 years later I am happy. Alone, but I survived, unlike what my ex said..that I would never make it without him.
Thank You God.

LadyG thank you for that...

I too survived two types of CDV.....After going to court and being embarassed by the justice system, I almost backed down...But finally stood up to the system and pressed on with my court case....I was barely given enough money to cover medical cost, but I was a survivor and nothing would ever put me down...The physical bruises and pain are gone, but the verbal remains...Being called a fat whore hurt me more then the slap to the face....No man, woman, or child deserves this....

You truly are strong woman and once again thank you!!!!

Life is a wonderful journey, its what you make of it along the way that counts.
