I know that we are doing threads on Breast Cancer Awareness Month...
However, I work everyday with women who are going to court over CDV cases...I see children whose mothers and fathers fight in front of them on a daily basis and I have seen children who no longer have a parent because of Criminal Domestic Violence.
I feel that I completely neglected this subject and sad that I did not start this thread earlier to help people remember those that have been affected by Criminal Domestic Violence. At work I wear a Purple Ribbon for Criminal Domestic Violence, Pink for Breast Cancer, and Yellow to remember those serving this country.
Please remember that October is also Criminal Domestic Violence Month as well. Wear your purple ribbon beside your pink ribbon in remembrance of Criminal Domestic Violence and the families that are affected by both these events.
Remember the women and children who are assaulted every few seconds in this country by a loved one or a stranger. Even men are assaulted by someone they love and trusted.
Each person that reads these threads, chats, knows of someone whose been assaulted, being assaulted, or has been a victim of all forms of CDV. Get the word out to help those that need you. Keep your eyes open and your hearts as well and help.....
There are many links out there as well as community action agencies that are there to help. Please remember CDV does not just mean hitting or slapping. It also means rape, mental cruelty, as well as other acts that harm someone's ability to thrive or live.
Once again throw up those purple ribbons along side your pink ribbons. Teach your children respect, honor, and love. Teach them to communicate with words before fist. Teach your children respect of all those around them, but to be cautious as well.
*********************************************************************
A lot of you will see purple ribbons on various things, but wanted you to see why the purple ribbon is used in so much. However, since Bush Declared October, National Domestic Violence Month in 2005, the organization has been using the Purple Ribbon as a official symbol of Domestic Violence.
Over the years, a number of sources have been credited with originating the use of the purple ribbon as a unifying symbol of courage, survival, honor and dedication.
Life is a wonderful journey, its what you make of it along the way that counts.

chica...thanks for bringing this up...i didn't know it was Domestic Violence month. I'll make sure and do some purple ribbons. I've been close to domestic violence and know some about it. ~nods~ It's great work you do. ~hugs~ keep up the campaign for awareness. It's a great topic to learn and talk about. The one thing i learned about domestic violence is :
The dysfunction becomes the norm - you don't even know what a bad situation you are living in.
Does that make sense? I think drugs and alcohol contribute so much to it but some people are just crazy.
If there is anything i can do to help please let me know. It's worth spending time on.
~hugs~

Does this mean we are encouraged to punch women in the mouth or discouraged?

Also being someone who has been through CDV, I know it is important that we remember this month as well.....
I knew a lady that I worked with who had breast cancer and her husband was so ignorant to her...She not only suffered losing her breast, but she lost the support of someone she loved....He had always been violent she said, but when she was unable to clean, cook, and do things for him, he would slap her in the mouth and hit her around...This poor woman not only had to put up with Criminal Domestic Violence, but she had to fight for her life in two worlds....
Thank you ladies for responding to this...We need to support both Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence programs. These women and men need us and our support. Some women are going through both...And its sad situation to watch someone slowly wish they would die so they never have to a feel a punch or kick, or verbal abuse again....
Nat you said it right..When children grow up watching this, this is their norm and a cycle of violence starts......
As I have more time I will put up sites for this issue...
But God Bless you ladies for speaking out for both issues that affect millions of homes.....
Life is a wonderful journey, its what you make of it along the way that counts.
