I've had a hell of a job getting my 2nd monitor to work after installing Vista.

Finally found a solution. I ended up buying an ATI FireMV card to replace my nVidia (which I thought was the problem with crappy drivers for Vista).

I ended up with the same problem... couldn't detect my 2nd monitor even with the latest ATI drivers.

Fixed it by using a DVI to VGA converter and plugging in a VGA cable into my 2nd monitor and bingo! the bugger was detected.

Vista isn't as bad as I thought.. my work machine seems to be running faster than it was with XP and the interface is nice. The Pork loads up a lot quicker too… probably down to a fresh install of the browser without all those plugins you tend to accumulate over a period of time.

A few issues I had with Vista was all the tweaks and patches I had to figure out for my development software but after a couple of days banging my head I've finally got everything set up.

Figured I post this because I couldn't find jack about this problem searching the net. Not sure if this would fix the issue I had with my old nVidia card but I'm not swapping back to test.. lol

Vista was foisted upon me by my employer and I absolutely hate it. It's slow, unwieldy and the memory management in it particularly sucks.

Though I didn't have a problem with my dual widescreens though and both use DVI connections to a pair of 8800s.---------------
Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language. They're not even real words so much as they're a succesion of violent images.

Hey Cradz, at least you got Vista to work on your computer. I did everything the advisor told me too and my Vista would not install. I am so tempted to move to Macs. lol

~grins~.. I'm loving it... and I'll probably be foisting it upon the rest of the company soon.. hehe

GaiJin

Aye, it wouldn't allow me to do an upgrade so I had to do a fresh install and I had to fiddle with a few drivers to get it to work.

It's certainly not an upgrade you should do if you have an older computer.

I won't be upgrading my home computers just yet as I'm sure my various online games will stop working if I do.. lol

gabby

er.. Mars? GaiJin said Macs lass... have you been drinking today? :p
