This goes to show, and to prove that Autism is simply a different form of thinking and perceiving the world around them.

I've always said that autistic people aren't stupid. I'm of the opinion and more than likely will always be of the opinion that autistic people are actually genius in mind. They have such a complex way of thinking that we, the 'normal' people couldn't possibly understand. Or else, it's just that we don't want to understand? I'm unsure.

Anyway, this really blew me away. Also? She sang so beautifully. ^_^

After I moved out my parents became foster parents for autistic children. That was quite an eye opener.

It really is just a different way of thinking and doing things. And I believe that because of that, they are extremely intelligent.

One of the children had memorized every single intersection in the Lower Mainland (Vancouver BC). He used to draw them out from memory, full colour an all. It was really quite amazing.----------------------

No, I'm not making fun of the autistic. Lighten up and shut up. It's an awesome t-shirt.

This really hit home for me because for two years I worked directly with autistic children. My job was to teach them verbal and non-verbal skills. To teach them in "our" way of thinking and "our" language. It ended up being so frustrating for me because more often than not there was minimal progress. Perhaps the truth of the matter is "WE" were going about things in the wrong manner.

Autism is a wide spectrum pervasive developmental disorder but that doesn't mean they are not human nor that they are stupid! In fact as mentioned in a previous post, some autistic children and adults are VERY intelligent!

Thank you IF for posting this!!!!

My brother, who is only a year and a few months younger than Me, is autistic. I wouldn't trade him for anything. He makes Me laugh when I'm down and amazes Me every day, especially his uncanny ability with electronics...especially vcr's. -chuckle-

I think that shirt rocks.

And on a side note..thas why I lub you Annie..-g-

p.s..mo rocks too. I greatly admire those who have worked with autistic children. My brother's teachers helped his advancement to where he is now in so many ways. This message was edited by Kizzie on 1-20-07 @ 8:16 PM

thanks Icon,

Mo been working with individuals with disabilities (many autistic) for 14 years, and intensively with one for 4 (my son)

your right the progress is often so slow its unnoticable, I take video of my son quite often, pictures all the time and I end up looking back and realizeing just how far he has come.
