Here is the relevant part of the DC Nation Column this week:

"This column often hints at many essential facts, but some secrets are ever important to conceal in our retention of the element of surprise. Therefore, above all objections, our one foremost thought is finally recognized and imaginatively coming to fruition. Right here this stands before you, the heart thumping meaning to what waits at our awe-inspired ending is about to see light. So that there is hardly any confusion, a code was transcribed, one easily translated as a harbinger of facts essential to those multitudes who have unilaterally followed the lives of our tenacious heroes from introduction to their various adventures and efforts. We have rallied around these said heroes, whose existence is the stuff of legend. This column's prime information is to let anyone who loves 52 have essential information to x-ecute a very informed opinion to select simply all the clues for summation.

So there you have it, the secret of 52. All you need to know about the stunning conclusion to our groundbreaking series is stated clearly in the paragraph above. Of course it doesn't touch upon the heartwrenching conclusion to Ralph Dibny's journey, the ramifications of World War Three or the ultimate fate of the space team, but it does give you an essential key to the direction of the DC Universe for the foreseeable future and where many future stories lie."

I'll make the answer in white, so if you wanna know you have to scroll over it.

Take the first letter of every third word, starting with the first word. For example:

This column often Hints at many Essential facts, but Some secrets are Ever important to Conceal in our Retention of the Element of surprise. Therefore,

=The Secret

The full answers in this: "the secret of fifty-two is that the multiverse still exists."

exactly what i didn't want to hear. unless it gets me new Capt. Carrot stories.

brilliant!

now both industry leaders have convuluted continuities that need a reset.

at least marvel has decades of stories good andbad to blame. DC managed to take a perfect set up and kill it in a year and a half's time.

I suppose there's pros and cons of the multiverse still being around.

Cons- Convoluted storylines and alternate versions of established characters that diminish the importance of the prime character.

Pros- A multiverse eliminates the need for Hyper Time *gags*. A multiverse gives writers more tools for telling good stories, and since DC already -has- a well-established multiverse, why not make use of it?

Honestly, I wasn't stunned by this revelation. Actually, I had always assumed the multiverse was still around, as soon as they showed that ship full of alternate Monitors. I thought that issue pretty much proved that the multiverse was still around.

The real question is, did Alex Luthor fail in creating one compiled universe, or was this his plan all along?

Being a Luthor, I have a feeling that this was his plan all along.

And if there are scores of Monitors scouring the universe, wouldn't it stand to reason that there are scores of Anti-Monitors?

And what in the world does Lady Styx have to do with it, and why do the Guardians -want- her to come into their part of the universe?

I found this on the official DC message boards:

SPOILERS for ION #10 (BIG, UNIVERSE SHATTERING NEWS!)
Posted: Jan 31, 2007 9:12 AM
ION doesn't make it to the Tangent Universe, he makes it to THE BLEED! As in the Bleed from Wildstorm comics! There he runs into Captain Atom (in his Monarch armor) who tells him that the Bleed is the one place they can hide from the monitors! There's even a cool one page spread featuring all of the Wildstorm heroes. Grab a copy of this book because it sets up the big things coming from dc regarding the return of the multiverse!

Ron Marz had even been teasing us about it:

01-04-2007, 11:22 AM
NRAMA: So - on the Kyle side of things, and just summing up, we've got the Guardians under threat/attack from forces unknown; Kyle's mom sick; and now - the Tangent universe. That about sum it up?
RM: Actually, there's something in issue #10 you don't know about -- a character appearance and a location readers probably aren't expecting. So there.

I am beginning to suspect that the "Teaser image" and the "cry of destruction" are not related to Earth-2, but to the WildStorm Universe. Which wouldn't be a bad thing, if it wasn't so damn likely that DC management will screw up characterisation and WS characters will be "put in their place" by the oh-so-moral DC heroes.

Not only did Ion make it to the Bleed, but he fought Daemonites with Captain Atom, in his Monarch-ish armor suit and they talked about the Monitors and the Oans, he fought with the Tangent versions of Green Lantern, Atom and Flash, and he ends the issue with finding Donna on a hidden asteroid base surrounded by dead Qwardian Weaponeers. How geeky is that. Ion started slow as a series, but I like it more with each issue.

Actually there were pretty big bombshells not only in this week's Ion, but Blue Beetle (the Reach) and 52 (What is up with Mister Mind?) as well. And that doesn't even begin to touch how evertyhing DC is shifting closer and closer to Kingdom Come reality.

I swear I have no clue how it all ties in together. There are so many pieces, and it's so -big-, and they keep teasing us with snippets of info.

The Oans are hiding something about the Forbidden Sector. The Multiverse still exists. Lady Styx is badder than Lobo and headed for Earth. Skeets is not only evil, but nigh-unstoppable. The Monitors from several different universes are banded together to monitor Earth. The Dominators are dealing in extraterrestial arms on Earth. Doctor Fate's helmet chose to help Ralph Dibny resurrect Sue. Blue Beetle's tied to something called the 'Reach'. KC Starman is in the present-day JSA.

Bah... I just don't know.

I surmise that the Forbidden Sector is a failed Oan experiment, likely one that birthed Lady Styx. I have a feeling that Captain Atom/Monarch is either going to become the next Anti-Monitor or revive him. I'm pretty sure that Skeets is tied to the Anti-Monitor as well. you know that DC is going to drop the Anti-Monitor us. No one's talking about it, but DC lore is pretty clear on the balance between Monitors and Anti-Monitors. Maybe this time around (and I made this argument before about Villains United and Infinite Crisis), the Anti-Monitor is going after the Earth prepared, by building his own four horsemen, so to speak; Styx, Monarch, Skeets and one more... He knows generic shadow demons and clueless Weaponeers are no match for Earth's defenders. Really, I still feel like AM would have been a better choice as a villain for IC. Each mini focussed on an aspect that contributed to his defeat the first time around; aid from other planets (Rann/Thanagar), the defense of magic (Day of Vengeance), villains joining their arch-nemeses to defend the Earth (Villains United), and building an army the heroes dare not fight (the innocent but lethal OMACs).

Right now I'm feeling that Captain Atom will be the next Anti-Monitor. The Monarch armor is very similar, and Cap has been really out of it lately. He certainly has more than enough reason to hate life in general, and he definitely has his own agenda.
