| | | | | What part of the US is your friend from? It makes a large difference on how meatloaf is prepared as the boring, dry hunk of crap they serve north of the Mason-Dixon is inferior to its Southern counterpart.
--------------- Trust me, most of the names I have been called you can't translate in any language. They're not even real words so much as they're a succesion of violent images. |
| | | | | 3 pounds ground beef 1 package crushed saltine crackers 3eggs 2 onion i cup ketchup salt and pepper
throw all that in a bowl
i use my hands to mix it.
put it in a 9x13 pan
cover the top with a layer of ketchup
bake it at 375 for about an hour
this is the only way i know.

| | | | | doesn't sound typical american meatloaf
ritz crackers will make it too rich.
and i never heard of 57 sauce in it.

| | | | | | i would use the recipe plenty posted, i'd add a chopped up green pepper, and to the ketchup on top, 1/3 cup of brown sugar. makes it burble up nice and adds a touch of sweetness |
| | | | | I don't follow a ~recipe~ I just wing it when I make it, but since I get asked to make it all the freakin' time I must do something right... So I'll just tell you what I put into mine...its all about flavor so I go for the fattiest hamburger I can find ~crosses my eyes~ I add in no paticular order.....chopped onion...bread crumbs..an egg..salt..pepper..garlic powder.italian seasoning...parm. cheese...and ketchup of course!! mix it all together and ~loaf~ it..THEN I cut off the top and add grated chedder cheese...put the top back on...more ketchup and spices on top ...and cook it at 375 covered with foil...... |
| | | | | here's my mom's meatloaf recipe (straight from South Texas)

1 egg, beaten 1/4 cup minced onion 1 Tablespoon Worchester Sauce 1 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp each- pepper celery salt garlic powder dry mustard (or 3 generous squits of Grey Poupon)
mix all ingredients, put in ungreased loaf pan, bake in 350 degree oven for 1 1/2 hours.

| | | | | mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... the way i posted was for what i consider regular american meatloaf.
when i want pizzazz i add different things like salsa, oregano, parm cheese, taco seasoning mix, green peppers, even a little white rice sometimes. I don't add all those at the same time. Just depends on the mood. It's an easy thing to experiment with.
