| | | | | Ack do I even wanna bring it up? How can the site be sure that people who C&P articles have permission to re-post them? There are simple things that most news providers will have you do to re-post or link their articles. AP for example has a copyright permissions link under each article. (An example is posted by me in the "Music" forum. a Guns and Roses article. ) I pasted the link to the article after getting the permission needed. If someone just copies and pastes from , say, Bloomberg.com, without permission, then they have violated one or two copyrights. One if it is a Bloomberg article or two if it is a news agency release used by Bloomberg. If a copyright is violated, who's in trouble, the site , the poster, or both? I only bring it up, because the government is slowly evolving it's internet laws and finally catching up to the technology, I wouldn't want someone to get in trouble for simply posting an article without permission. |

| Just like thousands of forums and sites like YouTube we are providing a service where you the user upload content. If the content you upload is complained about by the copyright owner then we have a responsibility to remove the content.
The Terms of Use state that you will not violate the copyright of others. It is not our responsibility to decide what is and what is not copyright content and we provide a mechanism for copyright holders to have content removed.
If a news organization sends us a cease and desist letter then we'll put in the rules that content from that news organization can no longer be posted on this site.
Any time you post/upload copyright content then you run the risk of having it removed. As the poster you are responsible for the content and not the site. |

| Can I copy an entire news article from a commercial news web site and post the article on my web site?

This is the reason you don't see me posting articles. I am the owner of this site and if I were to provide content like this then I would be liable.
If you post a full article without permission then you are liable. Again, I have no obligation as the service provider to make sure you aren't posting copyright content. However, if notified I do have a legal responsibility to remove the content and this has happened on several occasions with images and posts.
At the end of the day we're a small site and it's not a huge issue right now. If it becomes an issue we'll change the rules and protect the site. As long as you guys keep using and enjoying the site I'll keep it online and protected as needed.
