Lung cancer is the number one cancer killer of both men and women in the United States. In addition, lung cancer is responsible for more cancer deaths than prostate, breast and colorectal cancers combined. The American Cancer Society estimates that 213,380 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with lung cancer in 2007. Lung cancer is the most common cancer in the world with 1,200,000 new cases every year. Even more shocking, the average time from diagnosis to death is just six months. The disease is rarely found in its early stages, and there is no current screening tool that effectively detects the disease early.

I have a mother who is fighting the disease, a best friend who lost the fight to it last November at the age of 50, and lost another friend in his mid-50's the year before -- it's the silent killer and so rarely supported at a national level. Did you know the ribbon pin for lung cancer is clear?

i've lost friend and family to lung cancer too, m'Miss. but i also know survivors who are active, healthy and enjoying each day to the fullest. that's why i try to find something funny/sweet/nice each day. to make sure that i've smiled at least once before going to bed. and You've made me smile so many more times. *hugs* life's too short no matter what happens to be miserable, eh? *s*
