| | | | a shout of great destruction."

DC released this pic and caption in a press release, and all of last weeks shipping DC comcics had this pic spread in the center of the book.
Here's some extra info from Dan Didio himself, paraphrased by me:
All of the assembled characters are from the same Earth. Some of the images are literal, some are symbolic."
Events reflected in this picture will play throughout 2007.
Donna being in her Wonder Girl costume is significant because of the color. It's key to her future and allegiance.
It's hard to see, but directly below Kyle and to the left of Dinah's ankles you see a tiny red arm. That is Ray Palmer's arm, but the question is, is he climbing out of the rubble, or sinking?
Mary Marvel is depowered as per the current Trials of Shazam story, but this picture refelcts the coming events of 2007, so a possible repowering is on the way.
The image of Batman is symbolic, and it is our Batman, not a variant Elseworlds version. As for the sword, it's not the first time he used one.
The reason so many characters are looking up is that something is coming down from the skies ("Look to the skies..." was DC's caption for the post 52 event.)
That little glinting thing above Ted's hand? A Legion flight ring...
As for that mysterious device next to Max Lord, Dan says "Not really sure of its origion but it looks like it was built by the King himself. All I know is that it can light the road to hell or salvation, depending on your point of view."
The dead characters on the ground melting or 'phasing' into the rubble is symbolic, showing that the ground gave up these bodies, but not so completely as to confuse anyone that they might return.
Conner is conspicuously not pictured among the dead bodies, but Didio chalks it up to the bodies being in alphabetical order and they rean out of room after Q... dodging the question perhaps?
And if you're really sharp-eyed, and a DC buff, you'll notice that the Flash here is blue-eyed, and there's only been one Flash with blue eyes; Barry Allen. Says Didio "If that -was- Barry, shouldn't he be lying on the ground with the dead instead of standing with the heroes?"
There are no accidents in positioning, body, gaze, light or shadow. Every character was positioned in a purposeful way to symbolize either their relationship to other heroes pictured or separate storylines that the picture encompasses.
So there you have it. DC keeps upping the ante, with no end in sight.
As for my own observations, notice how Ollie and (I'm assuming) Dick, are both looking down at Dinah, who is looking up and away from them? Hmm...
Mr. Miracle also seems to be looking at Superman with regret on his face.
Batman is the only character looking straight ahead.
Kyle's with Donna, but doesn't have his arm on or around her.
Mary Marvel seems to be mostly covered in shadow, turning in towards it.
Superman is still the World's Greatest Crybaby. -heh- I think crying is one of his superpowers or something... Or maybe he just likes copping a feel on Diana. |
| | | | | Nightwing in his Red Robin costume....Tiiiiiight. That's all I'm saying. tight as hell. No more nightwing.
Batman looks as if he's gone... Templar, wouldn't you say? I mean, he's wearing fricken chainmail. And a tunic. It's almost as if he's either a) found religion...or b)...he's beaten Rah's for now and taken over.
Also, the Flash with the blue eyes...being Barry and all...wasn't the other giveaway his belt configuration? Didn't Wally have the lightening belt motif?
As for Supes crying in Wonderboobs.....lucky mofo. I'm guessing he's lost Lois or Kara. And is that a shield behind WW?
Also, the Mr. Miracle looking in greif seems to me that he's sad for Superman...possibly Darksied DID come back and get Kara again..I dunno.
As for Kyle and Donna..I'm assuming Kyle is going back to..the Titans possibly, since Donna is sporting those colors?
Now, my question, is what the hell melted lady liberty? |
| | | | | and on a funny side note
what if this was who was looking at them and asking what have they done?
|
| | | | | DC released another version of that pic, but it had Jimmy Olsen dead too.
It was leaked, but then all signs of it disappeared much like Jimmy's corpe.
PS: I love Az's icon.
PSS: Match is awesome. |
| | | | | Anyone see the WWIII promo piece where Dick is standing behind his old Robin costume in its glass case in the batcave, so that he lines up with it, and he has his old Nightwing costume in his hand?
Awesome. I'll try to find it and put it up here later. |
